Household sharing

Everything you need to share money management with your family — set up your household, invite members, assign roles and split costs. Available in the Android app; every member needs EZer Plus.

What is household sharing?

Household sharing lets you manage money together with the people you live with — a spouse, partner, parents, or roommates — without losing the privacy of your personal finances.

Share a grocery budget, split the electricity bill, or save together toward a family holiday. You choose what to exclude, and you can leave at any time.

Before you start: household sharing is available in the Android app only for now (it is not in the iOS app). Every member needs EZer Plus and must sign in with Google or Microsoft. A household holds up to 6 people.

How does it work?

Encrypted on your phone

The details of shared items are encrypted on your phone before upload. EZer can’t read them on our servers.

You are told before you join

Once you join, what you record is shared with the household by default. The invite screen says so first, and you can exclude categories, hide accounts or stop sharing an item.

You stay in control

In Settings → Household you can exclude categories, hide accounts, and stop sharing a single transaction, budget or goal.

What gets shared: By default your transactions (income and expenses), budgets, savings goals and bills, plus the bill splits, settle-ups and reimbursements you take part in.
What stays personal: Anything you exclude or hide in Settings → Household, and your own device settings such as app lock. When you leave, your own data stays on your phone.

Setting up your household

It takes less than two minutes.

  1. 1

Open Household from the home screen

Open Household from the home screen (or go to Settings → Household). You will be asked to sign in with Google or Microsoft and to have EZer Plus. Then choose Create Household.

  2. 2

Name your household and pick a currency

Pick anything — “The Smiths,” “Apt 4B,” “Mom & Dad.” The household currency is what shared budgets and bills are shown in.

  3. 3

    Invite your family

Generate an invite code and share it through any messaging app. They install EZer on Android, get EZer Plus, enter the code, and they’re in.

Inviting family members

Generating an invite code

  1. Go to Household → Members → Invite.
  2. Pick the role you want the new member to have (you can change it later).
  3. Tap Generate code. EZer creates a short code that expires after 3 days (72 hours).
  4. Tap Share to send via WhatsApp, iMessage, email, or any other app.

Accepting an invite

  1. Install EZer on Android, finish the quick setup, sign in with Google or Microsoft and get EZer Plus.
  2. Go to Household → Join Household.
  3. Enter the invite code, read the sharing summary and confirm. You’re in.
Tip: Generate a separate invite for each person — that way you can give each one a different role. We do not collect invitees’ email addresses or phone numbers; people join only through a code or link a member sends them.

Roles explained

There are three roles: Owner, Adult and Viewer. The household creator is the Owner and can change anyone’s role. Teen and Kid roles are not available in this version.

Owner

Full control. Can invite, remove, and change anyone’s role. Can delete the household. Every household needs exactly one Owner.

Adult

Can add shared transactions, create shared budgets and goals, and split bills. Can’t remove other members.

Viewer

Read-only access to shared budgets and totals. Good for an accountant, parent helping out, or extended family who needs to see the numbers but not change anything.

Common tasks

Split a bill

Add the transaction, tap Split, choose who’s on it, and pick an equal split or custom amounts. Members can then settle up with each other from the Family Inbox.

Privacy & security

  • • Encrypted on your phone. The amounts, descriptions, merchants, notes, categories and accounts of shared items are encrypted (AES-256-GCM) with a household key that members’ phones exchange. Our servers cannot read them. Some information needed to run the household — member names and roles, and the dates and status of shared items — is visible to our server.
  • • Key rotation. Whenever a member is added or removed, the household key is automatically rotated so old members can never decrypt new data.
  • • Leaving the household. You choose whether to keep your shared items in the household, keep them without your name, or delete them. Your own transactions, budgets, goals and bills stay on your phone, and the items other members shared are removed from it.
  • • Being removed. Works the same as leaving: your access to shared content ends, the key rotates, and your personal data is untouched.
  • • No advertising or selling. Your shared data goes only to the other members of your household. Household notifications contain no names, descriptions or amounts. See the Android privacy policy for details.

FAQ

Is household sharing free?

No. Household sharing is an EZer Plus feature and every member needs their own Plus subscription. A household holds up to 6 people. It is available in the Android app only for now.

Can my partner see my salary?

By default, yes: once you join, your transactions (income and expenses) are shared with the household. To keep income private, exclude the income categories (or hide the account) in Settings → Household.

What happens if I change phones?

Install EZer on the new phone, sign in with the same Google or Microsoft account and restore your cloud backup if you use one. Your membership is tied to your account, and Plus must still be active.

Can I be in more than one household?

Right now each EZer user belongs to one household at a time. You can leave one and join another, but not be in two at once.

How do I change someone’s role?

Only the Owner can. Go to Household → Members, tap a member, and pick a new role. They’ll be notified.

Can I transfer ownership?

Yes. In Household → Members, promote an Adult to Owner. The previous Owner automatically becomes an Adult. Useful if you’re leaving the household but want it to keep running.

What happens to the household if the Owner leaves?

Before leaving, the Owner has to transfer ownership to another Adult. If the Owner is the only member, leaving deletes the household.

Do household members see each other’s passwords or biometrics?

No. Every member uses their own EZer install with their own app lock, PIN, or biometric. Nothing about your authentication is shared.

Can a Viewer see how much I personally spent?

A Viewer has read-only access to what members share. Anything you exclude or hide is not shared with them.

Troubleshooting

“Invite code invalid or expired”

Invite codes expire after 3 days (72 hours) and have a limited number of uses. Ask the Owner to generate a fresh code. Double-check there are no extra spaces when pasting.

Shared budgets aren’t updating

Pull down to refresh on the Household tab. If it still doesn’t sync, check your internet connection — shared data needs network access to sync (personal data doesn’t). Reopen the app if needed.

A member shows as “Pending” forever

They haven’t opened the invite yet. Resend the code, or ask them to confirm they pasted it in Household → Join Household (not in a search field).

I can’t see the Household tab

Household sharing is available in the Android app only for now, so it does not appear on iOS. On Android, make sure you are on the latest version of EZer from Google Play.

Removed a member by mistake

Just re-invite them (they will need EZer Plus and a new invite code). Check Settings → Household afterwards to confirm what is shared.
